The photo answered a question I was going to ask, Gail. No, those meat ants up there aren't the same meat ant we get here. Ours are great, they don't bite but I suppose if you fell down dead they would eat you. LOL. Don't know that they would attack baby toads though, they mightn't be aggro enough.

god...won't they ever learn?
they're going to use the same faulty reasoning that got them into trouble in the first place...as their solution?
it'll be all fun and games until kids can't go outside anymore.

So far they are only thinking/talking about it and I hope it stays that way..

What with the red fox, the European rabbit, the cane toad, and the D. camel they probably think one more will make no difference

I don't think they are talking about spreading meat ants around the country, as it says in the article "The example of the toad itself shows that when you talk about biological controls you've got to tread very carefully." I think it is more aimed at the top end where the toad is just starting to spread badly.

We have no cane toads but feral goats and deer in this valley which reap havoc with the native animals - we have platypus in this valley (most of us know where but will not tell any visitors), lots of echidna, wallabies (incl the brush tailed rock wallaby that is threatened), roos, lyrebirds - here is a link to our wildlife. http://www.kangaroovalleytourist.asn.au/dir/kvep

The same group as this web site has had a grant and employed professional shooters who have killed 275 feral goats and 13 feral deer since July 2006.

We have to write to try and get support for another grant. Wish the same could be done for the toads up north! hammer

IN Normanton IN the Gulf and any Gulf community have a huge influx of Cane Toads since the flood water receeded. Floods spread the so well ,the breeding increaces 100 %
The whole of cape york has a huge feral animal problem.
The Government keep gazetting national parks and never any ranger increase to look ofter it .
The nat. parks we have are not looked after ,full of ferals, cats, pigs, foxes, buffalo ,goat toad and more.
