Drooping rose.

As you can see below, this rose, St Patrick, has produced thin stemmed heavy roses that droop. I am wondering is this because it is just a young rose? Or is this going to be the norm for it? Could there be something wrong with the soil? Am I not fertilising it correctly? Seems such a shame when, if you pick it up and look at it, it's a beautiful rose. Might it not be getting enough water?

Betty for me drooping roses mean they are thirsty.
Mind you a couple of my DA roses do that too even when they are not thirsty..

My sister said that Jude The Obscure does it, and I suppose this one is a little like a DA. It's disappointing.

Never mind, I do have a lot of cuttings potted up so I'm sure amongst them I'll have some stronger roses, and perhaps before I buy any more roses I should try and find out what they are like? Duh! LOL.

I was told that the DA's I were buying were like that so I knew what to expect Betty but I the cream/yellow/orange colours so much.. I was also told Graham Thomas grew to a tall arching type of rose and try and tame it. I am working on that now Betty pruning it when the canes get over 2 mts, probably a sin in the rosey world Betty but I dont want it weeping all over the driveway..

A gals got to do what she thinks is best for herself and her garden, and research does help a lot I agree I am sure some of your other rose cuttings will be stronger..

Betty sometimes if the rose is too young that can cause it, or perhaps its a water problem, it could be sitting on hard soil where it is not getting the proper drainage even though you are watering it.. I wonder if a little potash will harden those stems up, you probably know more about roses than I do so just a thought.

I know nothing about roses, Mary-Anne. My sister bought me up a magnificent bunch of her roses one Xmas and I was hooked. I'm only trying to get some growing though, haven't really succeeded yet.A woman up the road has Graham Thomas in her garden and she must prune it hard too, as it wasn't out of control when I saw it.
Could just be our water too, as in the water itself, which would be very salty I imagine this close to the dam being empty. Rain might really give all the garden a boost. Funny though, I wanted BIG flowers on my roses, and now that I have them, they droop, so you can't win. LOL.

Yes Betty you could be right about the water quality, even here when we were permitted to water with a hose the garden stayed alive, but it was only when we got the rain it started to grow and flourish....

Never mind the rain will soon boost all your plants up..
