Getting a few more of these in the garden lately they seem to be a little on the aggressive side

Entomyzon cyanotis: Blue Faced Honeyeater.

banana banana MA I I love you I love you that bird of yours we don't get them here ,
The Costus speciosa in the background looks healthy, has it flowered.

John was here on thursday and spent 2 hours trying to thin out the plants in the shade spots.
He stayed an extra hour to mulch the area he'd finished, Its only half finished , he won't be here next week ,has to go to the Big Smoke.
I went out to look when he'd finished and discovered he'd not only unearthed old chinese pottery [ broken] from the gold rush days but the biggest Alocasia amazonica I' ve ever grown, it was so well hidden you could'nt see it till John cleared around it
Faye measured the biggest leaf [there are 3 or 4 Ithink ]
lenght was 56 cm thats about 22 inches , she took some pics but said the light was bad so I
don't know if they are any good yet , also there were 2 seed pods on them still green yet.

Nice shots, Mary - Anne. That blue patch around the eyes does make it look quite aggressive.

What a find, Pitta, lovely large leaves.

Thanks Gwen sometimes I wish we would get some Bell-birds or gentle birds.

No it has not flowered yet Gwen yet the one next to it down below the Costus productus has been flowering for months and you writing about Alocasia amazonica I have two of them one right next to that tall Costus the leaves are about 10 cms/4 inches long.Crying or Very sad

So they are nowhere as big as that giant you have in your garden, what a find lucky you, seed pods as well that interesting... banana banana

I will look forward to seeing the pic up against a match box laughing wit tears laughing wit tears You must be doing wheelies wearing rose coloured glasses to miss one that size, and old Chinese pottery sounds good too I suppose it was all broken Sad hey the mind boggles at what else John may find in your garden..

Sounds like a garden of treasures to me winky-winky

very pretty birds ma, the wing colour is very similar to the singing honeyeaters I get here but obviously the face is very different! Ive noticed honeyeaters can be quite agressive to each other, seems to depend on if they are a pair or part of the same crew but they'll defend food or water to outsiders from their clan. all lovely to have around though, although you'd think they'd just get along wouldnt you? they seem to waste so much energy on claiming things flower

They are pretty Ota very noisy at time these ones seem to be in flock of six.
Beats me while are are often fighting there is plenty of food and water in this garden..

Thanks Fay that one is on the list I was looking at it yesterday and I think I will have to slice downwards with Tony's machete to get a rhizome off as they seem to be connect to the main plant you cannot pull them apart..
