We went out for a relaxing few hours yesterday to Cedar Grove at Amamoor in Mary Valley which is in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

There was a short 1km bushwalk through rainforest following a section of Amamoor Creek which is a popular swimming area in summer, not so much in winter Ack Most of it is less than knee deep

At least we didn't have to get wet crossing it like some of the other bushwalks around here. I was expecting my daughter to go for a dip though as she decided to skip across the bridge... luckily she didn't fall off as the water was very cold

Everytime the kids see a big strangler fig they groan as they know to expect a photo next to one Very Happy

It was huge, the kids nearly disappeared between the buttress roots. Just as a guide, my monkey son is just over 6' tall

I made sure the kids didn't get too close to this tree though... the infamous GympieGympie Tree. The pain from touching the leaves can be so bad it has driven people to suicide

Fabulous photos, Gail. Those strangler fig trees are awesome....and the water is lovely and clear...lots of water holes around here are filthy, regretfully.

We all like walking through rainforest areas... trouble is we're running out of different places to go that aren't too far away.

This area is all state forest and fairly rugged country and is very popular with campers. Just down the road a few kms it opens up a little and at the moment is starting to become a 50 hectare tent city as the National Country Music Muster is on in August and people start turning up in June to get their campsite... between 15000 and 20000 people camp there every year http://www.muster.com.au/thesite.html
