I noticed this weird looking creature in the pond when I was topping it up today... there were actually 3 or 4 but the others were deeper in the pond. This one was walking around under water on a nearly dead waterlily leaf. Not the clearest of pictures as the thing moved very quickly - just running around in circles over the leaf - it was about 1.5cm long. I've had a quick look online to see if I can find it but the closest I've been able to find was a Mayfly nymph but they are supposed to have 2 or 3 long tails and this one didn't. It might have had very small ones but I didn't see them. I've gone out a couple of more times to get more pics but can't see them now.

It is possible that it is a dragon or damsel fly nymph... it is very similar and also we have plenty of both of them around.

That is so cool, Gail...lucky you finding such a 'strange' creature. Be sure to keep us updated with this fellow.

He (she?) reminds me a bit of a crawchie (yabbie)..I like crawchies...we travel out of town to the country every once in a 'blue moon' to a little pub/restaurant had serves them regularly on their menu...very, very tasty.
