This one still gets me... I know I have seen it somewhere, either in a book or the actual plant but I just can't remember. It looks so familiar. The closest I can get is myrtacaea. I keep coming back to Rhodomyrtus macrocarpa but it doesn't quite fit though the fruit is poisonous which would explain why nothing touches it. It is very similar in many ways. The fruit looks like a syzygium but the flower isn't right. The flowers in bunches on the ends of the branches are confusing too.

Have you cut open the fruit at all to see the inside?

I've been looking through Psidium again but even though the flowers match, the fruit seems to be round rather than long.
