I was up with the birds this morning humm there is no way one can sleep here
So much tweeting going on so I grabbed the camera and went looking.
Tony was out the back checking the rain gauge 1mm and he said there was a frog in it.
I went down and this little Litoria latopalmata.. broad palm frog was in it.
I picked the gauge up and took it down to the bamboo's

And let the frog out on the mulch it quickly buried its self under the leaves.

Back to the birds they were everywhere.

This blue faced Honeyeater was trying hard to get a feed.

Gorgeous, cute little frog, Mary-Anne. Lovely bird photo's too. Some people don't like Noisy Miners but I do. I envy you for the fact that those blue-faced honeyeaters nest up there, They only pay us a fleeting visit as adults.

Thanks Val it is a dear little frog size 4 cms and twice as big as our tiny green ones the mind boggles as to how it gets into the rain gauge as the very small hole about 1cm round drops into the clear measured tube and it wont come out either so I have to leave that tube standing upside down so that little frog will slide out..

Those noisy miners are very photogenic and I love the colour around their eyes..

Betty I don't mind the noisy miners if they are not in a pack and attack all the other birds like they used to when we first moved in here. The family sized flocks here are great, we often see one baby noisy miner with one baby Butcherbird and they seem to stay friends for life.

Our Baby Butcherbird is looking good now and Tony only feeds them strips of steak every second or third afternoon around 5pm, he fed them yesterday. Today they arrived four Mums and chicks and Barney up top I think the word has gone around and there they all were on the balustrade on the back decking singing their little heads off, so of course Tony had to get some steak strips out of the freezer he thawed them out under the tap water and as he walked out the back decking and down the steps how lovely it was to see his little friends flying overhead following him out to the front of the block where they all perch on that telephone cable and wait in turn almost for Tony to throw the meat up to them and they fly down and catch it in mid-air..

How wonderful is that.. I love you

No sorry Val I don't have any pics of the birds like that, you see even with my wide angle lens 17-55mm taken down on the widest part at 17mm I can get them all in, by moving back so far trouble is they would be so small you would hardly see them..

If I am out there at that time Val I usually have *The Beast* screwed to the monopod not the camera as this lens is heavy and could rip the front of the camera out, now I cannot hand hold it steady its a 300mm f/4 prime lens so does not zoom, if I want closer or far away I have to step forward or back.. Smile Now if I add my 1.4 extender to that lens that make that 300mm Telephoto into a 420mm Super-telephoto lens and more heavier for me to handle, I should put it on the tripod but cannot be bothered whistle so with long lens that size I can take pics of the birds on that cable but because its a long lens not a wide lens I can only get one bird in my sight..

Have you seen this topic with Baby Barney on that cable taken with that lens https://gardendelights.forumotion.net/around-the-yard-f2/look-at-me-t875.htm he is such a sweetie does a lot of squawking, though its only for a couple of months.. Those photos paint a picture too..

Sorry Fay I did not see your reply there duh

Yes the birds love the Calliandra we have two but this one near the front decking they all visit often.. Tony wanted to chop it down because I am always complaining about the thousands of seedling that pop up over a year but I don't have the heart to take this source of food away from them so I will keep pulling them out by hand till there is too many, then I will have to spray them..

Same as the dead Poinciana tree we were going to cut that down and dig it up as its in the middle of the back yard, but baby Barney often rests there and waits for Mum while she is hunting food and the blue faced honeyeaters fly up there shake shake shake when they get out of the lily pond then rest and dry off.. So its looks like that one stays also.. Smile

Thanks for your reply MA. I'm not very up on camera lenses but I get the general idea! I hadn't seen those pics of baby Barney, I missed them when you posted them before. They're absolutely charming and he looks like a real character!

Thanks Val.. If only some one could invent a wide angle telephoto lens that's not very heavy I reckon it would make us all happy, if we could afford it of course...
