Rather than bin them you can give them to somewhere like Lifeline or church or similar... I give any excess to the school to sell as a fundraiser... but one of the churches in town here cooks for the homeless and often asks for excess.

when i had that lemon tree out the back making hundreds of lemons...i would simply put lemons on the lawn right next to the footpath. they would disappear one-by-one.
no one has ever helped themselves to the lemons growing on the front tree...so i think it doesn't exactly train people to come in and help themselves.

I was only going to put them inside my gate right against the fence on a table, but I reckon they would have pinched that too or thrown the jolly pumpkins down the street and smashed them like they did with our letterbox.
