| Here are some bougs I have growing around the yard. I have not include the Smarty Pants right up the back although it is getting much bigger now. I do not want them to get huge but would like to have a nice showing of colour throughout the year. I like what Mary-Anne and Tony do with theirs...some on standards...some shrub-type. When do I coach these plants into shape? Now? This one is near the rose garden This one is between two trees and I'd be happy for it to get say 1.5M to 2M high and reach these trees but no further. This is one of three on front boundary - in the middle of two others and under canopy of trees, various. This is another on front boundary, closest to neighbours And this is#3 in that trilogy...near driveway The next four were purchased at markets...same day....treated exactly the same...this first one seemed the happiest at time of purchase...I know what to do with it | |

| All looking nice and healthy... well, except for a couple I'll let Mary-Anne explain her pruning methods for her nice ones.. On any of my bougies, I just trim back the branches that go the wrong way or too far but then we are after a less formal look and use them more as a screen... and we get plenty of flowers off and on throughout the year. One day I would love to plant a row of them in the paddock and let them go without cutting at all as they are stunning when mature... and absolutely huge...a wall of flower 3 to 4m high and same wide as they scramble over each other trying to climb... will never do it though as needs lots of space. | |

| I agree with letting them grow - but no space for that. They do look beautiful "in full flight". | |

| Are they all different colours? They will look nice and colourful when in flower. | |

| Thanks Mary-Anne; I have converted it to a word file and saved it in my Gardening folder. I am yet to install a drip system - that's another "one day" job. There may a double up in colour but essentially all different colours. Mary-Anne, I am not sure I want to make them all standards - so I guess I will keep the others pruned???? | |

| Yes that's right Daniel I prune my little and often say about half the cane so that it shoots more canes, when they get to say one metre only half them, they say dont prune after late Summer as you are cutting all the Autumn/Winter flowers off, some of mine are starting to come into flower now. Yours are little so if you dont start now they will end up all leggy I would imagine.. A couple of Standards would be nice like a entrance to somewhere. Californian Gold..Thats what it states in the Label ? Jamacian Orange The pink is Rosenka dont know the darker ones name as I grew it from a cutting on the side fence see below White Cascade.. Limberlost Beauty Thai Gold Limberlost Beauty and Thai Gold I find are better plants for the Standards Smaller flowers more of them, and they dont throw those long 3 mts canes.. Bougainvillea dont like much water mine only get what comes from the sky * I never water mine except in the very dry * and only if I see them drooping its ok to water them a little for a while when you first plant them but keep your eye on them and make sure they are not planted where water can pool.. | |

| That's a hard act to follow MA. I'm attempting an informal hedge but it keeps sending out these long thorny canes as fast as I can prune them. It's Bambino "Nonya". These photos are several months old so it's bigger now. | |

| I have heard of the Bambino's doing that frankly I feel they are best left in a pot I only have the one Bambino Boug Zuki and its never done really well Although this one has Dwarf Boug Evita I just keep cutting the thinner canes back those longs ones I would be cutting them off I have a normal lilac one that does that *Pride Of Singapore* and its a pain its one of our oldest ones I told hubby if it only spot flowers this July he can dig it up I have better ones that flower so freely and dont always need pruning either.. | |

| Thanks Cheryl.. It can get very colourful in my garden in the dry Winter... The ones on the fence belong to my neighbour but I looked after them doing all the pruning for ten years till late last year when HE said only cut the ones on your side, so I have not touched them since I have never told his wife as she told me to cut them years ago as she could not be bothered.. Tony cuts our side now and dont care how he does them either.. | |
