Looking at the remaining trunk there apears to be some kind root looking at the bark. What do you think Gwen??

I have had a couple of close calls here Gwen only small branches, one about as thick as a tennis ball came tumbling down and got caught in another branch on the way down stayed there for two years just out of reach and finally came down one windy night Tony and I were very relieved I tell you.. Too many 75ft/23mt high gum trees 15 ft/4.5mts from the house..

We've had a few experiences with the widow-makers... ironbarks are one of the worst in spring when the sap is rising, they just drop branches when there isn't even a breeze. One just missed our son when he was only about 3 and playing in the back yard.

Do you have trouble with borers Gwen? They are often the cause of falling branches... or the black cockatoos when they are looking for the borer.

We had a large Jacaranda branch fall some years back, ...the weight of the limb was unbelievable, it knocked down part of the fence. The whole tree was rotted...has since been removed.
Another time our Melaleuca dropped a large limb on next door's roof...no damage thankfully.
The arborist has made a fortune from us.
Be careful in your travels, Gwen.

Richard its a Scaly ash tree the bark looks like that naturally . could be termites of course . We discovered termites a few weeks ago leaving red dirt tracks up from our slab up under the hardiplanks into the house . We have a steel frame house but there are wooden areas around windows and doors and skirting boards ,also termites are known to get into electrical cables etc.
I have the pest controller booked to come and spray all around the house at a cost of $1100.
thet spray and then place some sort of soft mesh all around then thats painted over ,its
guaranteed for the life of the house.
