| John is here this morning to plant . The lady I got the Gingers from just delivered them. She had a pow wow with John to show him best places to plant etc. John said this is new to him, he knows nought about Gingers but looks forward to learning something new today. 16 Gingers are being planted. Faye has gone out to get a few pics of garden today maybe I can post some soon Autumn still | |

| John did 4 hours planting interspersed with a little garden natter. Faye took some pics,of course only a couple of the new gingers had flowers. The ginger lady brought me a few from her garden to show me a few more like John planted. John at work. I won't put names on them all,you can always ask if interested . A COUPLE ON THE END WITHOUT FLOWERS. 16 new ones planted I forgot I have a pic of the ones in a bottle the Ginger lady bought . I have other pics around the garden I'll put on maybe tomorrow. | |

| Cheryl . How kind , I know Canna should do well here ,I had a very common one once and it spread so much we had to mow it down with the lawn mower till it died,it took over. I thought the newer type woud be good .MA sent me the Tropicana ones red and green.the stripy ones. The green did not do well then threw up a new leaf and seems as if it will survive. The red stripy one had died off and no new shoots yet, therefore I reckon I'd better wait and see how they do before getting more .it is nice of you to offer ,I'll take a rain check if I may. Have to use up some of these Autumn smilies before Autumn ends. | |

| thanks gwen. gosh. they are stunning. actually...i think they are the most beautiful flowers i've ever seen. i'm totally in love. are any of those types that don't require winter dormancy? and if they do...what sort of dormancy? i think it gets colder here than what you get...is that right? and you say they like shade? hey...i got some of that! this is the first time i've even considered planting something that doesn't feed me. ha. maybe i'll end up being an all-rounder after all. | |

| Tessa, many gingers are edible as well as pretty. Don't know how they'd do over your way though... I don't know enough about them and I don't have much luck with them myself | |

| Tessa . The ones that go dormant are mostly the .,Genus Glogga variety ,also some of the Genus Costus .I have only one Costus that goes dormant ,thats Costus dubius the beehive one in the bottle.Domancy would last from end of summer till beginning of spring. I cannot see why you would not be able to grow the Heliconia in WA . Those Heliconia in the bottle Lady DI ,Sassy etc grow here in full sun but will take part shade also . Get advice from one of you local nurseries to see if they do well there, and which varieties do best. There are plenty of colours .They are a beautiful flower. | |
