| Broms are one plant I am hopeless at ID-ing as there are so many crosses these days. That first one I'd say was a Vreisea as Gwen said but don't know the second. I don't think it is a pineapple (mine are doing well since I moved them where they get more water - they should do alright here - used to be a pineapple farm a couple of kms from us until a couple of years ago... no subdivided and houses built). Is it possible to get photos from a different angle... from the side and leaves, etc? | |

My potted one's going strong. Try growing them out in a garden bed in the open BL you wont be saying that then.. Five years we had them in the garden and they did not do a damn thing except use up our water.. Grew about 30-40 every 18 mts in Townsville and had no trouble with them at all Don't remember any frosts up there too many down here..

| No frosts here, ever. Jerry C-W grows them in the ground at Wynnum and there are pineapple farms just north of Bris. | |

| Who is Jerry C-W Wynnum is right on the Coast its very different than inland. You say No frosts here ever You have to be kidding ..Or Are you a newcomer to Brisbane Or do you live on the coast too.. We get our fair share of frosts here 32 kms South of Brisbane were you here then we had three bad frosts in one week in July 2007 I lost quite a few tropical s that week and nearly lost a few natives, and lots of mature tomato bushes. Plenty of cold days and nights in brissie http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/articles/2007/07/19/1184559902397.html | |

The only frost I can ever remember was when I was very, very young living at Bald Hills. We're at Wooloowin now and frost is unheard of over this way. I know that some areas can get frost but it's the exception rather than the rule and it's usually on the outskirts of Bris, particularly the west and sth west burbs.

| GA you mean Gardening Australia. I don't watch much TV, I used to watch that program years ago find it hard to now as I am cooking dinner then.
I had to Google your suburb sorry I had never heard of it, you are very near to the Big Smoke are the houses kind of close if so then I can understand you not getting any frost there as with so many main roads I wonder if the heat from the cars like exhausts warms the air up...
I live a few kms before Beenleigh and across the road the houses there back on to the Logan river larger then normal blocks here so in places very open to the frost it even drops down under the tall Gum trees .. I lived in Melbourne for 45 years and do not remember frosts as bad as some we have had here the past 10 years..

| Yes, Gardening Aus. The houses here are close but it's more to do with the lay of the land, even the big parks here don't frost. Honestly in most of Bris frost is quite unusual you've just picked a cold pocket to live in. | |

| I grew up in Bris and the majority doesn't get frosts but where we used to keep our horses at Belmont got a few. There are patches that get it but not usually too bad and gone by the time the sun hits it. | |

| We are on a hill and never have frosts and yet a one km. down the road the park is one of the first places in our region to have heavy frosts. Where we used to live (4kms away) everything would be totally iced up..and was it bloody cold. It was in a hollow...so I think the fact that we are on a hill plays a role. | |
