| When John came last week he brought me a couple of little RexBegonia. New flowers on my Adenium "desert rose" Tibouchina "jazzie" dwarf, is doing well.I NOTICED AFTER FLOWERING THIS LITTLE GUM NUT LOOKING THING ,extreme right , is this a seed pod .I also noticed the tip browning on some leaves, would this be overwatering ? I have not grown Tibouchina before. | |

| Pretty begonias That is a seed pod on Jazzie. Tibouchinas are prone to getting brown tips on their leaves. They have a shallow root system and like to stay evenly moist without drying out in between... which is why I'm totally surprised by my tibouchina as it has never had brown tips and we never water it even through drought. | |

| They should be fine Gwen they love the humid conditions. Not fond of too much water though as they could rot As long as the soil is free draining that's the main thing | |

| Gwen, I just looked it up and besides irregular moisture and low humidity, the other thing that can cause brown leaf tips is they prefer an acidic soil. | |

| I have the perfect conditions here, the soil is acidic, extremely well drained and I don't have to fertilise, the red volcanic soil is so viable, so I don't know why the brown leaf tips, its not all the leaves. | |

| Maybe the Jazzie just needs to settle in, as long as it is growing well I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just keep an eye on it. Sounds like you're in for a busy 10 days... it is great to see family | |

| Thanks everone, yes John is a treasure, he is here today , weeding and mulching. He's weeding the garden that I have planted with small shrubs and MA''s Day lilies. MA the Day lilies are growing so well ,only lost one from the dozen different colours you sent. John just discovered my Croton "Picasso's Paintbrush: has collapsed with wooly aphid.it looks dead all curled up brown leaves, he pulled it up and Faye took it and potted it up to see if she could save it . I don.t hold out much hope though. John is in the garden that has 3 Ixora, he said there are more berries forming on the large pink one , the only one I've ever noticed that has seeds. I went out when John arrived to show him what I'd like done today and I noticed a frangi ".Banana Ripple" nearly leafless has flowered I did'nt think it would flower so late in the season.Faye took a pic. I'll put on a pic when she loads them on the computer. It was lovely out in the warm winter sun , perfect this time of year. | |

| Shame about that croton, it was a pretty one but they are tough so the roots may still be alive. I am a surprised that there is still the odd flower on our frangis too and only a couple have lost all their leaves, the others still have about half their leaves. Our winter so far hasn't been that cold compared to usual. Only had a couple of very cold nights, many have been over 5C and quite a few around the 10C mark - still too cold for me but better than around 0C. The regular rain/showers are keeping the plants growing too. I'll have to go out and take some pictures but first have to sit around the house until I get a phone call which could be anytime today... if I went outside the phone would ring as soon as I got all the way up the back | |
