| I guess there are various varieties of tri-colour. I have some cuttings from Gail...very young. I also have the original variety that was growing here when we bought the place...I sometimes call it fruit salad. They are so lovely! | |

| That's great that they are doing so well. You probably won't get too many flowers for a year or two but once it starts there will be plenty.
Daniel, yours are the same. The flower fades over a couple of days so looks like different colours on the one bunch.

Strange isnt it Ota Fruit Salad is this one in Queensland, I have the label. And Gail's Tricolour Maybe is slightly different more yellow and rounded petals With so many different colours these days it easy to see them getting named wrong.

| that is strange, definitely the second one they call fruit salad over here, but i'd say we only get a small portion of the colours compared to you lucky banana benders so the names over here might not be all that accurate either | |

| Years ago, any tri-colour used to be called fruit salad as a common name but that was before they started having all these newer named varieties with their registered names. This one would have been a named variety as we originally were given the cuttings from nursery friends of ours who imported them from Hawaii... took them months and a trip to Hawaii to organise bringing in about 30 different frangis. | |

| Ota.. When you get on the Mail Order sites there are so many there that look just a little bit different and have different names.. The flower colours are also a lot deeper when first open my Fruit Salad one actually gets deeper coloured markings on it as it gets older.. Where Gails one as she said, some of the flowers fade as they age. No sign of any seed pods yet on the bright flowered ones, maybe this year... | |

| I'm with you Ota....I know I am not correct but I am happy with common names and generic reference for most things. Clearly happy to know the difference between such things as bamboo running or clumping though...that sort of thing. | |

| Gwen, I read somewhere that often a frangi will flower as a cutting as the flower was already starting to develop before it was cut but often won't flower the second season as it puts its energy into the flowers instead of getting its roots down so might be an idea to cut the flowers off... put them in a vase inside to enjoy. | |

| I reckon Gails plant must be loaded with something like growth hormones , I have three of the cuttings and one is huge and has had two clusters on flowers, one has had one, and one has not flowered yet all the same size cuttings, potted up the same day then planted in the garden the same day in different spots the biggest one is planted about 3 meters from the house on the south side.. The other two are planted in another in my sort of rainforest garden.. | |
