| Daniel I know you are busy with the builder today a I seen it somewhere. If you can get to Bunnings buy some Beef Steak Tomato seedlings ours were so delicious. We just bought another punnet, only four in them these days | |

| Those timings are for Brisbane - the web site says there are exceptions that look essentially like regional QLD | |

| I have just turned over the soil in the first bed of the new vege garden. Rotary hoe was recently serviced but will not start so went back to tried and trusted method...garden fork and spade. Now to choose what to plant - what to buy as seedlings and what to buy as seeds.
Better check out gardenate site...I wonder how good my really, really old seeds would be...hmmmm

| Daniel ate another of those Beef Steak Tomatoes for lunch Yummy.
Do you like sugar snap peas eat the entire lot, even better than snow peas and so sweet.. Cos lettuce grow good here in the cooler weather..
Its a great day for turning the soil its been raining here I had to give up gardening..

| Thanks Mary-Anne, I have checked that site and book marked it again.
What is the collective view re "old seeds"?
Should we... give them a go despite "Best before" date....but only if unopened? give them a go despite "Best before" date....even if previously opened? give them a go despite but just throw all seeds in one plot and see what comes up? throw them all away and start again? some other option I have not thought of here?

| I will often just put them in pots and see what comes up. A lot depends on where they have been kept - hot shed or cool house. | |

| They keep best in a cool dry place... but I have had luck with some that were kept in a shed. | |

| I am thinking of making a strip by the fence and spreading them all in there and see what comes up. | |

| Daniel that is a fantastic veggie garden. It is a little larger than mine but then I ended up letting my chooks into mine and growing large climbing roses up the sides and so now it is the shady veggie garden. But it is lovely to grow veggies and not have any predators - I had half of it divided off with some soft white bird netting so that the chooks can't get into that part and that's where I put my raised beds. Makes life so easy and having the chooks in part of it means I can throw the weeds/ old veggies over to them and they are protected at night. Great if you grow smaller fruit trees in part as the chooks will clean up the fruit on the ground and keep some of the moths out of the trunks.
I am having another less fancy cage built now for my tomato and berry crop in the sunny veggie garden. Here it is not the possums but the birds which will eat anything.
My next project is to have a sink in the shady veggie garden. I have water there (thanks to the blue line piping and connections which mean you can cheaply extend a water line) but it would be so nice to have a sink to wash things so that I do not bring lots of dirt and mud into the house. No chance of power there sadly or I'd have a cuppa.

| Pamela - thanks for kind words.
I reckon a sink is a good idea. I have one left over from old house so might locate it up there...for same reason.
